Natural Link

This is a link that has been added to a site solely because the publisher has deemed it link worthy, without having been requested to by the linked sites owner. Gaining natural links is the primary concern of link baiting, where websites attempt to gain links by creating unique and authoritive content that people will link to without being asked.

Nofollow

Nofollow is a command that can be utilised in a couple of different ways and explains to search engine spiders that they do not necessarily support, and want to pass pagerank, particular links. The nofollow command can be either placed in the <head> section of the site (making all of the links on the page nofollow), or it can be used in the code of an individual link. Typically nofollow is used in situations where a lot of users can post comments and links (such as forums and blogs) where the owner of the page cannot vouch for the strength of the links being posted.

Noindex

Similar to nofollow, the nodindex command tells search engine robots (see also spiders) not to index the page at the end of a link. This is typically used to stop search engines indexing pages that you do not want to appear in search results. One of the most common reasons for this is if a site is in the process of being created and contains placeholder content that you do not want the search engine to cache.

Niche

A niche is defined as a distinct section of a market. One of the most effective ways of promoting a website via SEO is to figure out exactly which niche the website fits into and actively target results that will attract appropriate visitors. Generally using this technique will result in lower traffic than aiming for a broad market, but typically the niche visitors are the ones that are far more likely to become customers.

Non-reciprocal Link

A non-reciprocal, or one way, link is one which has not required the linkee to link back from their website to the one providing the link. While reciprocal links can at times be useful, non-reciprocal links are more desirable as, to search engines, they look the same as natural links which they provide greater weight to.
