Google To Change AdWords Ad Text Trademark Policy

I'm sure you have probably run into the problems that attempting to use trademarked terms in your ad text bring – in most cases you can't, you get the cheerful 'editorial guidelines' error.

It seems like this may soon be something consigned to history, as Google has recently announced a change (to be implemented on September 14th) to its ad text trademark policy to allow advertisers who don't own the trademark, or even have permission to use the trademark, to still use it in their ads.

This follows the US AdWords policy change announced last year, and it's nice to see this finally rolled out over Canada, Ireland and the UK.

Advertisers may finally be able to mention the name of the products they are selling, not just have to describe them in a round-about “running shoes” “casual trousers” sort of fashion.
