New Android Phone Promises A Pure Experience

Google’s new smartphone, the Nexus S with Android 2.3 onboard was released just last night with a promise of a ‘pure Google experience’. The phone has been developed by Google and Samsung and has been hotly anticipated, not so much for its handset, but more for the updated Android operating system onboard: better known as Gingerbread.

Nexus S features include:

  • 4 inch contour display – curved to fit your face
  • 1 GHz Hummingbird processor
  • 5 Mega pixel rear camera
  • VGA front camera video chat
  • NFC (near field communication) chip – for using your phone as a swipe payment card

The NFC function is by far the most interesting thing about this handset as it should open up a world of possibilities as developers get their hands on the technology. It could potentially revolutionise the way we pay for everything.

Gingerbread features include:

  • Improved speed overall – faster animations and less application pauses
  • NFC tag support
  • Keyboard and typing system upgrade
  • More accessible for games developers

Here is a video with a lot more detail:

Over all it looks like a great package. There’s no microSD card port unfortunately, no trackball and it is rather a lot like the Samsung Galaxy S, but having Gingerbread on there should prompt many people to give it a go. The Nexus S will be on sale December 20th in the UK.

Do you think this delivers a ‘pure Google experience’?
