Google I/O – Experience The Future Of The Web

Google I/O is basically a large conference for web development professionals to join together and discuss the way forward for the web, whether that is traditional desktop or mobile. As you might imagine there is fairly heavy Google content, with focus applied to technologies such as Android, the various Google APIs, Google Chrome, etc.

The ‘Technical Sessions’ feature a multitude of talks allowing attendees to gain in-depth knowledge and insight into the inner workings of some cutting edge technologies. It’s not all heavy technology though, there are also introductory talks and ‘Fireside chats’ to allow for the relaxed questioning of some of the big brains behind the big brand technologies.

Other highlights include the ‘Developer Sandbox,’ which is a chance to see some of the companies who have used these open technologies, featured at I/O, to create new products and services.

Highlights

For me, perhaps the best things about these conferences are the videos of the talks that surface from Google I/O. At last year’s I/O, a now surprisingly hirsute looking Matt Cutts gave a talk ‘Site Review by the Experts,’ where he analysed a number of sites for usability and SEO. The video from this talk, although over an hour in length, makes for some really interesting watching.

If you are interested in web usability or wonder if your site could be optimised more effectively for SEO, then this video is a must-see:

As videos from this year’s Google I/O surface we’ll be sure to bring you the highlights!

Google I/O 2010 is being held in San Francisco, May 19th -20th.
