Put Yourself to Sleep with Bing’s SEO Tips

I thought it was about time I wrote a post about Bing as I don’t want to be called a Google fan-boy. However, in truth, Bing is normally pretty quiet most of the time and when they do have something to say its not normally very interesting.

In saying that though when Sasi Parthasarasy (claimed as the one of the brilliant minds behind Bing. Brilliant minds? Not something I normally associate with Microsoft, but I digress) was asked what SEO professionals and web developers should be doing to optimise their websites for better rankings in Bing. The answer was nothing. Yep that’s what he said, check out the video below if you don’t believe me.

What he did go on to say though was if you build original content then this will encourage people to link to you thus gaining links and more strength in the Bing search engine. (Nothing new there then).

The thing I don’t understand is, if all being equal, why aren’t Bing’s results the same as Google’s.  The Bing algorithm must be different to Google’s in many ways as the Google results often seem of better relevant quality than Bing’s.

You may be thinking at this point that that I don’t like Bing, on the contrary, I think there are several things Bing does better than Google. I think the search engine as a whole looks better and has some really nice features. As one of Google's strong points was its simplicity, in recent months I think Google are trying to do too many things and their results are starting to get a bit cluttered. There could be a danger of Google losing ground because of this as the simplicity of Google is what helped it become so popular. But what it really comes down to is the quality of the results and I still think Google is way ahead in this area.

Also Bing Shopping is worth a mention its way better than Google from a usability standpoint. But in saying that Bing didn’t design this system they just bought it, so take from that what you will.

What do you think of Bing? Do you prefer it to Google or are you a Yahoo fan boy/girl? I would love to know your thoughts.

Check out to aforementioned video below if you want to hear what Sasi has to say.
