Bing Now Chimes On The iPhone

Microsoft is again pushing deep into hallowed apple turf with its new, free, Bing App for the iPhone. This new addition, available from the iTunes, has some useful features such as voice recognition and location aware searching and map information.

The voice recognition seems to be of particular interest. If you were to say, for example, “Edinburgh weather” then the new Bing App is able to perform a quick search on those terms. Pretty neat!

The mapping options feature many of the handy tools that are so popular these days, including the option for Bing to search for local shops and services (such as restaurants, cinemas, etc.), and then provide directions (walking or driving) to that destination.  Certainly sounds like a useful tool for anyone travelling.

With this new App, Microsoft is certainly trying to push Bing into the hands of many iPhone users. The battle for search is indeed being waged in pockets all over the world.
