Are You Spending Wisely With Google AdWords?

Advertising is all about returns, getting more for less really is the name of the game. Companies looking for online advertising often turn to Google AdWords to give them the means to reach their potential customer base, but as always, they need to do this in the most cost effective manner possible.Google Logo

Google has a vested interest in helping their advertisers optimise their campaigns, afterall, a happy advertiser is more likely to keep investing, or perhaps even reinvest some of that return in further advertising.

The Inside AdWords blog has some information for advertisers about how to control the amount of money they spend with AdWords. Furthermore it details not just how to set the campaign budget but how the advertiser actually has control to micro-manage how that money is distributed within their campaign.

There are 3 mains ways to control your budget:

  • Daily Budget – This is a simple one, it is the budget that you allocate to advertising on AdWords every day. If you can afford £1000 per day then simply enter that figure.
  • Cost Per Click (CPC) – This is the maximum value that you are willing to pay for someone to click on your advert. This can vary quite a lot from industry to industry (someone selling CD’s will be paying less per click than someone selling holidays). This will also affect where your advert is placed on the page – if you don’t have a high enough CPC value then your advert won’t show on the first results page. This means that you will be fighting an uphill battle to get decent returns on that keyphrase.
  • Ad Quality Score – This is a Google supplied score, it looks at your advert, keywords and landing page to evaluate how relevant they are to your services or products. Higher quality scores also help with budget as Google rewards attentive advertisers with a lower CPC value – the extra work in getting a better quality score actually results in a lower cost to advertise.

If you have an AdWords account and have never looked at how you can make it even more efficient then you may want to take some time to see if there are some tweaks you could make in order to get a better return on your investment.

For companies looking to advertise via AdWords but don’t have the time to properly manage their account then this service can often be outsourced to another company, if you are in that position then don’t hesitate to contact us here at Cozy Digital.
