There is something about Google employees when they step out onto a stage festooned with applause. They all have a glimmer of real excitement and are obviously itching to tell you about the cool product or software they have been working on because they know that you will find it fun and useful. Eric perhaps not so much, but Hugo who comes onstage at (0:26:24) certainly does.
Earlier this month at the IFA in Berlin, during Eric Schmidt’s key note speech, he spoke about how technology is giving us what we want and need now in terms of communication and how Google wants to do this faster and sooner. He also mentions that mobile search traffic grew by 50% in the first half of 2010. One particular innovation featured in a demonstration is an astonishing application of mobile technology with one of Google’s features done at a speed which now makes it a technology which could change the world.

Now Google already do a line in voice translators which lets you speak or type in your language and have translation spoken back to you, but what this lets you do is have a conversation with someone standing next to you in another language. When you watch the video you can imagine the implications for this technology. Eric Schmidt quite rightly says that this is a technology people have been talking about wanting to be able to do for 50 years.
