Microsoft ‘Patch up’ Internet Explorer

The last week hasn’t been a particularly good one for Microsoft and Internet Explorer after it came to light that IE was allegedly the weak-link in the recent attacks on Google. A great deal of bad press came Microsoft’s way as it became clear that the attacks during the Google/China incident were made possible primarily by a weakness in Internet Explorer.

While this vulnerability had initially only worked on computers running IE6 on Windows XP, code has now been published allowing malware writers to adapt it to hit a much wider target. It didn’t help Microsoft’s image much that as a result the German and then French governments were warning their citizens off using the software giant’s browser. Microsoft in the mean time have been avidly working on a patch to fix the system and possibly mend their ego.

Microsoft usually have a set day for the release of updates every month known as Patch Tuesday. This makes the process of businesses scheduling updates a lot easier. However, in light of the recent event a patch is set to be released today to fix the issue. Microsoft will be hoping that no further issues leave them with egg on their face. The advanced bulletin for the patches release is available from the Microsoft tech site
