Yahoo UK & Ireland Directory to Close in November

If you have a listing in the UK and Ireland Directory listing then you may well have received an email about its closure, wiped a tear from your eye and then made a mental note to check your rankings after the 18th November execution date…

Yahoo have handily given users the option to carry on paying for their listing through the US based Directory submit program. Otherwise users are asked to email Yahoo to request a refund of the most recent fee paid to the Directory Submit program – your listing will then be removed from the Yahoo Directory. You have until 5pm PDT on the 18th November 2010 to contact them, or they will conclude you have selected to keep your listing in the US Directory.

More information, including a Yahoo contact email address and details of what information to include, can be found in the ‘UK/IE Directory Closure FAQ’ in the Yahoo Dir Help.

  • Yes, I got the e-mail so I know all this. I’m interested in why they would do it. Any thoughts?

  • There is a Yahoo quote on Search Engine Land from earlier this year concerning the closure of other European directories:

I’m guessing that similar thinking has been applied to the UK and Ireland directory.

With the option to have the listing added to the US directory perhaps this is a ‘streamlining’ of their directory services?
