Chrome Replaces Safari as the Third Most Popular Browser

A mere 15 months after its initial launch Googles web browser, Chrome, has managed to become the third most popular web browser with Internet users throughout the world.

Apple’s Safari had been sitting pretty behind the browsing bohemoths Firefox and Internet Explorer recently, but December was the first month that Google’s newcomer has secured a greater marketshare than the Apple browser.  December saw Google giving Chrome it’s first major push since the browsers launch with a massive advertising campaign encompasing billboards, bus stops and even the cover of the free daily newpaper The Metro, initial reports make it seem like the investment is paying off.

In addition to the advertising push Google unveiled the long-awaited Mac version of the browser and updated the previously buggy linux version.  For Windows users, a new iteration of the Chrome beta introduced extensions – allowing users to customise their browsing experience in a similar way that firefox allows via it’s add-on system.  This series of updates and advertising has undoubtedly helped Google usurp Safari as the number 3 browser and puts Google in a strong position to chase Firefox and IE throughout 2010.
