Google Chrome Wins Browser Grand Prix

With the recent talk of Windows 7 users getting an automated option to select a different standard web browser attention is again thrown onto which, if any browser, could be called ‘the best’.

As with all software choices, personal preference can play a huge part in deciding what is the best browser for you, one persons needs are of course different to another’s. That is not to say there are not a number of metrics with which you could scrutinise the current crop of popular browsers, its this task that the tech site Tom’s Hardware has taken on.

The test was split into a number of areas, with browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari and Internet Explorer) tested on areas such as Javascript, compliance to standards tests like Acid3, page load times, memory usage and many others.

After much testing the winner of the Tom’s Hardware Web Browser Grand Prix is Google’s Browser –Chrome.

As I mentioned before, whether Chrome delivers the browsing experience you are looking for really depends on what you want in a browser. For me, Chrome is a great browser, but the current level of customisation that Firefox provides still makes it my default choice. That said, with the increase in the number of

Extensions to Chrome, it might just be a matter of time before Chrome is king of the plugin castle as well.

  • I would say as most people don’t even know what a browser is or even care. My browser of choice would have to be Google Chrome. Its simple and fast and that’s what most people need in a browser.

  • Lack of knowledge about browsers is certainly an issue. Many users seem to think they just use ‘the internet’ when they open their default system browser.

I’m a Firefox user, but secretly think that Chrome’s UI & speed is leagues ahead.
