Google Releases Video Sitemaps Video

Twas only a couple of months ago that we talked about submitting sitemaps to Google to register your video content. Well, like Google always does, they’ve released a handy video to help users understand the thinking behind video sitemaps and explains how they can be beneficial for any site looking to make the most of their online content.

It’s really quite simple, Google is just looking for some simple pieces of information:

  1. Your videos title.
  2. A description of the video.
  3. The URL of the page the video is located on.
  4. The URL of a thumbnail image for the video.
  5. The actual location URL of the video.

So if you have a great slab of video content on your site then why not use it to promote your site? What’s more, it highlights another way for businesses to help advertise themselves online – if you are a company selling high-end kitchen knives then why not put a video online of usage techniques and sharpening information? If you are a electronics shop why not create videos looking at newly released products or even helpful videos explaining how best to setup your home entertainment system? This great, unique content is exactly the sort of thing people will be searching for – so its exactly the sort of thing that can help drive users to your site!
