AdWords Wants A Better URL

We all know how popular Pay Per Click advertising is these days, it’s a superb way for companies and individuals to generate quick, targeted traffic for their sites.

For the Google AdWords system this has often taken the form of adverts placed next to Google Search results. These ads have always had a set of rules applied to them, for example you are not allowed to use trademarked terms within the ad copy, well these rules have been tweaked again – this time its concerns the Display URL.

The Display URL is the part of the ad that lets the user know which site they are about to visit. It generally takes the form of the normal address of the destination site – e.g. http://www.example.com. The changes announced affect how shortened versions of these URLs are handled. Previously you could shorten a display URL if it was too long for the space in the ad e.g. example.com. Now however, if that site has many subdomains then it will be a requirement to specify which one within the display URL e.g. Instead of example.com, sales.example.com would be required.

If you think this will affect any of your current ads then change them before you receive a warning!
