Googles Social Search Results

Yesterday Google released their new feature to provide social search functions as part of your searches within Google. At the tail end of last year this service was made available to those who wanted to try it out early. Apparently it was a great success and has now gone out for public beta. With Google ever expanding and the growing popularity of social media, it seemed only a matter of time before the two came together completely.

What this feature offers is a method to tailor your search results to include relevant information from your friends and contacts as well as the usual search results. For example, if you searched for info about your local football team it might return a blog that a friend who also supports the team has written.

What this does it allows you to make the Google search more personal to you and prioritise the information available from your social circle. This system works with the range of social networking sites to provide you with the information from wherever you choose. Furthermore as well as providing blogs and posts made by your friends it can also be used in image search, returning relevant photo’s from your friends.

This feature adds a nice personal touch to your searches and can be extremely useful. When searching for an opinion on something (like a purchase you want to make) you’re often more likely to trust the opinion of someone you know rather than a generic website.

This short video provides a look into how the service will work.
