While Google and Facebook carry out their battle for users, there is another probably more titanic struggle which has been going on since before Mark Zuckerberg was even born and before Google could find its belly button. This is of course the battle between Microsoft and Apple: for your respect, your loyalty and your choice in hardware.
In the latest muck slinging enterprise, Microsoft has a dig at Apple with their new Windows 7 advert. The film shows a PC and a Mac on a plane in a rather well put together animation. The PC plays a Blu-Ray film for the journey, much to the appreciation of the Mac. Basically the ad says PCs are clever and Macs are not.

But haven’t Microsoft missed a beat here? Isn’t Blu-Ray going to be a flash in the pan as streaming video and downloads becomes the way we all get our films and software delivered as disk based formats become obsolete? Hellooo! Didn’t Microsoft know this just a few months ago?
Microsoft’s UK Xbox head, Steven McGill, even said in September:
“…actually Blu-ray is going to be passed by as a format. People have moved through from DVDs to digital downloads and digital streaming, so we offer full HD 1080p Blu-ray quality streaming instantly, no download, no delay. So, who needs Blu-ray?”
