Webmaster Tools Now Analyses the Speed of Your Website

As part of their quest to improve the speed of the web the guys at Google have just unveiled a brand new feature in their Webmaster Tools: Site Performance.

Google have long been advocates of the idea that speeding up your website is one of the best ways that you can improve customer activity and retention, which will help you generate more sales and greater profits, and have conducted extensive research to back up their claims. Google set up Webmaster Tools to provide webmasters with a toolkit that would help them conduct analysis and tests on their websites, allowing them to constantly tweak and improve the site to create the best experience for the end user as possible.

The latest experimental feature that has been added to the Webmaster Tools is the “Site Performance” section, which analyses and tracks statistics relating to how fast each page on a website loads and how these figures vary over time.  The statistics are generated when users visit a webpage with Google Toolbar’s enhanced features enabled; they are then presented to webmasters in the “Site Performance” section, which can be found under the “Labs” heading in the left hand navigation bar. In addition to tracking statistics and providing webmasters with information the tool will make suggestions as to how the webmaster can improve page load times and the latency as perceived by the sites user.

Site Performance will undoubtedly be another useful tool for webmasters to experiment with and will hopefully be successful in increasing the overall speed of the internet.
