The Cozy Digital Friday Blog Log

Well it’s finally Friday again and the week certainly seems to have flown in. We’ve had fun here on the Cozy Digital bringing in our musings on current affairs so we figured it was probably worth recapping how the weeks gone by and what’s been making news. Hopefully this will become a regular slot on the blog for us.

It’s been an interesting week in internet land with plenty of news from some of the big players. Google seems to be trying so hard to get attention that they might as well have donned a high-vis jacket and a megaphone. Of course the sun doesn’t always shine out of Google’s ‘blog’ and there were certainly some things that they would probably rather stayed under their hat.

This week Google may have crumbled under pressure in the ongoing dispute between the search engines and ‘media mogul’ Robert Murdock over limiting the search engines access to news content on certain sites. As a result, the new ‘First Click Free’ program will allow content providers to limit the number of pages a visitor can access before being presented with a registration page. This topic of freedom of content is a tricky one and it’s reviewed in our ‘Google Crumbles under News Corp. Pressure’ Article.

However it’s not all been controversy for Google as they made this a big week for promoting themselves in good ways. In the build up to Christmas, Google hit back at Bing Shopping’s promotions with some promotions of their own on Google Checkout.

They clearly spent some of their time working on useful little perks for their users with an improved format for image results on their search engines. As well as this they released some specs of the additions that they recently made to Google Analytics.

Aside from the news, we also brought in some useful stuff of our own looking into the effects of duplicate content and what it could mean for your site. We took some time out on this one to provide something a bit useful about how valuable duplicate content actually is and how search engines regard it. Furthermore weve made an addition to our blog with a new poll which will take in new topics on a weekly basis. Remember to make vote.

All in all it’s been an interesting week, and we can only hope that next week gives us something interesting to get our teeth into and spark a debate. But who knows, this internet thing surely can’t get any bigger. What’s that? Oh, apparently it can.
