What Useful New Features Does Analytics Have to Offer?

After recent announcements of possible new features, Google Analytics looks set to make this variety of new features available this week with some unexpected extras. As a free service from Google, Analytics provides a comprehensive tool for generating detailed statistics about visitors to a website. It is already extremely widely used for SEO and marketing of website due to its massive range of features and useful additions are likely to make it even more popular.

One surprise new feature announced yesterday is a new asynchronous tracking code snippet. This will offer a variety of benefits resulting in faster load times of tracking code for a webpage and enhanced data collection and accuracy. It will also eliminate tracking errors from when JavaScript hasn’t loaded fully. This will basically provide faster load times for web pages, particularly those that rely on multiple scripts or rich media content.

The new goal type ‘Engagement Goals’ will be a welcome feature. After recently increasing the number of goals available per profile, Analytics have further improved this with advanced goal types. It will allow the user to create two new useful goal types based on time spent on site and number of pages visited. This will help to create a more expansive overview of how the site is being used.

Expanded mobile reporting will allow a more comprehensive insight for Analytics users on how people are using mobile applications. As mobile apps don’t generate HTML, Analytics has aggregated the data from how developers determine when their apps should trigger pageview requests. This will allow developers to track page views and events more effectively.

Advanced table filtering will remove the need to export data from tables in order to bring it down into the subsets you need. It will allow easier and more detailed analysis of table information with an array of filtering options.

These are just a few of the new options available and other functions such as custom alerts will prove of great use in measuring the success of ad campaigns and other events. Unique visitor metrics will prove of great use in measuring site popularity more concisely with info specific to each visitor. The full list of new features is available via the Google Analytics blog and each will prove of great use to Analytics users.

For a publicly available application, Analytics provides an outstanding service highlighting Google’s position in promoting the expansion of well developed sites and content for the web.
