Cozy Digital Week-End Blog (18-12-09)

Wow, Friday again, and Christmas is but a week away. It’s time to put the finishing touches to your gifts in the last weekend of shopping. Aside from the merriment of roasting chestnuts on an open firewall (see what I did) we’ve been hard at graft bringing in a variety of new news stories and reviews on the Cozy Digital.

We did a bit of showing off this week (I know it’s shameless) by highlighting our social networking success in our press release. But why not, credit where deserved and all that.

For seconds, where would our blog be without the usual look into Google’s comings and goings? They’re becoming quite the staple of our diet. Google aimed to speed up their Search function with a variety of updates including new automated results for things such as weather searches, along with the new Quick Scroll Chrome extension. They also introduced support for cross site canonical linking as well as a tool to determine how much of your site is actually being seen on different monitors.

They got their nose in on the whole ‘save the planet’ debate in Copenhagen with new Rainforest friendly technology. They also introduced a new URL shortening service (Goo.gl) and have set up a beneficial new YouTube Channel for Content Network AdWords advertising.

Lastly they issued an Easter egg on their site with what looks like a countdown to the end of the year. I like to think that Google has finally set a date for the Rapture and all heathens (Bing users) will be banished to internet hell to burn in the unholy fires for eternity.

There was a slight negative for Google AdWords this week. Their new AdWords keyword tool seems to lack any resource for negative keyword searches prompting us to point it out to them.

In the mobile world there was news from both Google and Bing. More rumours of the ‘Nexus One’ Google phone have emerged while a new Bing app has been released for the iPhone.

In other news, Microsoft may have got into a sticky situation over the origins of their Juku application as well as the emergence of a Decaf application to render their COFEE tools obsolete.

Finally, as we always like a good debate we have published a post detailing the proposal for the introduction of subscription fees for film and television on YouTube. Feel free to pitch in with your opinions on the matter, or any other matter. We’re always happy to hear from you.

We’ll be back for the first half of next week before be disappear briefly for crimbo.
