To Optimize, Or Not To Optimise

Every once in a while at Cozy Digital we get into a heated debate, whether it be about SEO, web design or which was better out of Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter. (Mortal Kombat by the way). The point is that the office is often a bustle with debate and today is no exception.

The argument this week stems from an ongoing argy-bargy about the use of the keyphrase ‘diy optimisation’. The problem is that google.co.uk seems to have got it into its head that when someone in Britain looks for the term optimisation, they in fact mean the American version ‘optimization’. A bit presumptuous but then what would you expect from an American search engine.

As a result this plays havoc with our ranking for the term for which we receive a great deal of interest. So what do we do? Well there are two schools of thought around here on this particular issue. The School of Graham and the School of Kev. Graham is of the belief that by changing the term of the keyword to the American spelling, we can pass on the strength built from the previous version and start ranking automatically. Kev however, is of the persuasion that this simply won’t work and that optimisation will have to start from scratch for this minor change.

So how do we settle this without resorting to gratuitous violence in the ring? Well we could just test the SEO theory. After all, that is what we do best. In the mean time why not get your optimisation or optimization caps on and let us know your theory on the issue.
