Are You Optimizing or Optimising?

It seems like it might be time to send Google back to redo their English exams as they seem to be losing sight of the difference between American and British English. The problem stemmed from the fact that Google.co.uk was running searches not based on the British spelling but the American spelling of the word ‘optimiSation’ and as such was returning a variety of American pages that may not be what you are looking for.

While nobody’s perfect you would think that the search engine giants could understand the difference between the two spellings and particularly that they could apply the right version on their British based variation of the search engine. Hopefully it won’t be long before they rectify this little hiccup as it’s an unsightly blemish on Google’s complexion. Don’t be surprised however, if next week your search for colour returns color and your search for pants gives you a range of trousers.
