Cozy Digital Week-End Blog (29-01-10)

The weekend is upon us once again so most of us can look forward to kicking back for a couple of days and perhaps making an appearance down the local. It’s important to take time to relax, that’s what the health experts say, and I happen to relax best in the pub with a pint in hand. This week the biggest news on the web seems to have surrounded speculation of the new release from Apple.

The iPad was finally revealed this week, ending speculation about what the new hardware from Apple was actually going to be called and what it offered. With rumours about the iPad circling, it was referred to across the internet as the ‘Apple Tablet’, ‘iSlate’ and the ‘Jesus Tablet’. I kid you not, the Jesus tablet. On release it became apparent that Apple have finally managed to get a Mac and an iPhone to successfully breed. However, it remains to be seen whether the offspring is a pure breed, or a bad result of inbreeding. We’ve already looked into some of the iPad’s setbacks and it not simply a case of a few minor issues.

Elsewhere, Google have kept busy by providing a variety of new services to their army of users.  New features included improved rich snippets for website owners to tweak their search results, social search results for those twitter and Facebook addicts out there and new accessibility features such as improved keyboard shortcuts where all dished out by Google this week. On top of this, Google are also making a surprising step into providing TV advertising with a similar setup to their AdWords service. Also in celebration of Data Privacy Day Yesterday (I know I can’t believe I missed it too) the search engine providers released their guiding privacy principles to help us all out.

In other areas we looked at YouTube’s discover music service, which is actually pretty good and Yahoo announced their quarterly finances revealing a profit for the first time in over a year.

As we always like to provide a little something extra on our blog aside from the news, we also provided a few insightful articles. We know a little bit about using a blog to improve your online business success so we figured ‘hey why not share the wealth’. We also looked into what the reCaptcha tool is doing over and above preventing spammers. Last but not least, we like to push out a review every now and then and our look into the new version of the Opera browser for your mobile is proving pretty popular.
